Week 2: Coordinate Systems

 

(NAD 1983 (2011) StatePlane Delaware FIPS 0700 (US Feet) was used because it is an appropriate projection for the entire state of Delaware. It limits distortion for Delaware more than a UTM projection.

Cartography Week 1: Map Design and Typography

 

This week I created a multitude of maps that challenged my cartographic skills. The map above is of San Francisco and it included some of its noteworthy geographic locations. I inserted text at these locations in ArcPro. As far as a general theme, I made all of the fonts the same, Californian FB as it looked good and fit the locale. Additionally, I set the water features to have a blue font color, while I maintained a black font theme on the land features in order to maintain legibility. I attempted to have the font conform to the text of the features to the best of my ability. Case in point the Golden Gate, which I aligned the text to spread across the strait. Additionally, tried to have the fonts size relative to their geographic area while still maintaining legibility. This establishes a hierarchy by size. Overall, I learned a lot this week about using text in ArcPro
