Week 5: Geocoding Addresses

This week I geocoded addresses for education facilities in Manatee County, FL. First, I downloaded the necessary geographic information for geocoding from the Florida Department of Education and the U.S Census Bureau. I then had to clean the data up in Microsoft Excel before I could project the information in ArcPro. I then imported the CSV I created as a table in ArcPro, and after creating a Geolocator that tied the tabular information geographically via address and zipcode. I then geolocated the addresses, but there were some that were unable to be match, about 18 of them. In order to find these addresses, I utilized Google Earth. I typed the address into Google Earth and found the nearest school. If an address was not available, I looked in the attribute table for a name. I then converted the degrees, minutes, seconds of the latitude and longitude into decimal degrees. For conveniences sake, I used a website that automatically calculated those values into decimal degrees (https://www.fcc.gov/media/radio/dms-decimal). After completing the geolocation, I upload a webmap which can be found here, https://pns.maps.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=22ef69ca55eb4d54a2bf799096ebd8b6
